The recipe below is about as close as you can get to real thing, except I used a higher quality meat and likely you will too.
Make the “secret sauce” a day before you want to serve the burgers for the flavors to incorporate well. I have not bought yellow American cheese – maybe ever, before this. Do not substitute if you want that Big Mac flavor.
Homemade “Big Mac”
You may be saying, why have I not done this before? I know, I said the same thing. If you love a Big Mac, make this next!!
Servings: 4 burgers
Ingredients
- 8 burger patties (3-4 oz each)
- 6 brioche buns (sesame or plain)
- 8 slices yellow American Cheese
- 1 c shredded lettuce
- 8 slices hamburger dill pickles
- 3 T canola oil
Secret Sauce
- ½ c mayonnaise
- 4 T sweet pickle relish
- 1 t sugar
- 1 t salt
- 1-2 T onion (minced)
- 2 T French Dressing (or Catsup)
- 1 t white vinegar
Instructions
Secret Sauce
- Combine sauce ingredients and whisk together.
- Refrigerate overnight if possible.
Buns
- Cut the bottom top edge off two buns with a sharp serrated knife to create the middle bun of the burger.
- Paint oil on each side of all 4 buns and the middle pieces.
- Grill in a skillet until browned, set aside.
Burgers and Assembly
- Cook burgers in a skillet on medium-high, about 2 minutes on each side.
- While cooking, spread sauce on top and bottom bun.
- Put 2 pickles on each middle bun.
- Place shredded lettuce on each top bun.
- Place the cooked burger on the bottom bun and the middle bun.
- Place cheese slice on each patty.
- Stack the burger.
- Serve and ENJOY!
